Welcome to Cleveland Montessori. I have had the privilege of being part of the school’s journey for over 30 years as a parent, guide and now, Executive Director. Cleveland Montessori is a school with a passion for authenticity, upholding the principles that create a true Montessori experience – including beautifully prepared multi-age classrooms, maintaining the three hour work cycles, dedicated, trained adults, and the unwavering belief in the power of each child’s ability to reach their full potential.
From a young age, these children are empowered to believe that they can make a difference in the world. And they do.
At Cleveland Montessori, the whole child is being served. Beyond academics, students are provided with opportunities to build their social skills through classroom interactions – learning to collaborate, navigate conflict respectfully, share ideas and solve problems.
Nestled in a quaint historical building in the heart of Little Italy, to many, our school feels like home. Our unique location offers a plethora of opportunities within walking distance or a short bus ride to access some of the world-renowned institutions in University Circle and the greater Cleveland area. Students have the good fortune to include the museums, CIA, CIM, CWRU and local medical institutions as extensions of their classroom experience. One of the most important aspects of the elementary experience is the “going-outs” which are mini field trips for students to explore a particular topic. The world is at their fingertips.
The students’ physical needs are being met with the ability to move within the classroom as well as access to outdoor play, gardening or trips to local nature areas. In addition, students may explore their spirituality through an opt-in program, The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, based on New Testament scripture and focused on the life of Christ.
Looking back, this was the first and only school experience for my children from preschool through their elementary years. The friendships and education that they forged during these early years provided a foundation that would support them throughout their high school and college years and into adulthood. They gained confidence from three years of age in the hands-on exploration of practical life skills and grew to be students who were eager to make a difference in the lives of others through service work and connections in the community.
Confident, motivated, compassionate, independent, problem-solvers and imaginative thinkers…these are a few of the words that I use to describe my own children and the words every parent lists when asked the question, Who do you want your child to be when they grow up?
